Published: 11/19/13 Jane P. Fitzpatrick Our condolences to our friends at Country Curtains It is with sad hearts that we share the news that Jane Pratt Fitzpatrick, founder of Country Curtains and long time owner of The Red Lion Inn, died peacefully at her home in Stockbridge, Massachusetts on November 9th, ten days short of her 90th birthday. Jane Fitzpatrick was the heart and soul of Country Curtains. She was an astute and talented businesswoman who, at the age of 33 and with two small children, started the business on her dining room table 57 years ago. She designed the first curtain, drew the first magazine ad, took the first orders and shipped the first package. She and her husband, Jack, built the business into one of the largest retailers of window treatments in the United States, with 26 retail locations, millions of catalogs mailed and 588 employees in thirteen states. Jane was Chairman of the Board at the time of her death. At Country Curtains, Jane would accept nothing less than the highest levels for product quality. Any flaw in any curtain was not acceptable. She also insisted that no customer be disappointed and did not hesitate to personally intervene to ensure her managers understood her complete commitment to superior service. The values that Jane and Jack Fitzpatrick believed in: Character, Commitment, Community and Continuity are at the heart of Country Curtains. All of us are deeply saddened by the loss of Jane, but we know that her values will live on, inspiring our employees to continue what she and Jack began many years ago.
