NEMOA REDEFINED:
CHANGE DEMANDS NEW NAME

BOSTON, MA, March 14, 2012 – What’s in a name? NEMOA, one of the nation’s largest and most active multichannel merchant associations, has redefined its name to better communicate the organization’s reach and purpose. NEMOA is now the National Etailing & Mailing Organization of America

While the organization, formerly known as the New England Mail Order Association, was started 65 years ago as a way for a few catalogers from the Northeast to meet and discuss business issues and exchange ideas, the NEMOA membership has grown beyond its regional borders and is fully engaged in e-commerce. Today, 30-percent of NEMOA member companies come from outside of New England, as well as from Canada and the UK.

“NEMOA has been successful in drawing members from across the country and for many years our conference content has matched members’ focus on e-commerce along with traditional high-quality direct marketing. It was time for our name to reflect today’s business environment,” said Russ Gaitskill, president of NEMOA, and CEO of Garnet Hill.

NEMOA’s mission remains centered on providing opportunities for companies to network and education via its conferences and events, Web site forum, and social media.

“To be successful today, a company has to stay on top of changes in technology and consumer behavior in order to be a relevant brand and beat competition for wallet share.  NEMOA provides the venues to learn about these changes in order to help retailers, whatever channel they use, and apply the knowledge gained to their business,” said Cindy Marshall, vice president of NEMOA.  “Not only do we provide access to new technology but we recruit speakers that are industry thought leaders who speak about high level strategy as well as tactical applications that helped them succeed.”

The NEMOA directXchange conferences—held in March and September—are premiere events for direct marketers from across the country to share, learn and connect. Top experts speak on a variety of topics including marketing, creative, merchandising, fulfillment, e-commerce. Executives have many opportunities for lively discussions and networking with colleagues, to learn and share information about improving business’ profitability.  The NEMOA directXchange conferences guarantee delegates will return to their companies with a notebook-full of quality information.

The NEMOA Web site (www.nemoa.org) offers a forum for members to start discussions, post and answer questions, and seek advice. Companies can post employment opportunities on the site as well. NEMOA has an active presence on social media platforms—Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. The NEMOA Annual Golf Outing raises money for the NEMOA Education Fund while providing an energizing and entertaining day of golf.

“While keeping its well-known initials, NEMOA has simply updated its meaning and expanded its name to embrace its membership coverage area,” said Gaitskill.
