Industry Alert:
  Our Industry Is Out-Gunned & Under-Manned

It's Not Too Late to Take Action, But Time is Growing Short

Dear Catalog Industry Executive:

Unless something happens soon, I predict the following:
  • Your postage costs will rise by 20% within 3 to 5 years, and…
  • You will spend 1.5% of the value of your revenues each year sorting out the massive complexity in collecting sales taxes on all your orders.

Click here if you need more details on these.

If we are to have any shot at mitigating the damage of these predictions, we have to get from the two-thirds of one percent participation to at least 3% of the industry supporting out work.

You are part of the 3%. That’s all we have direct email contacts with.

Here are your three choices:
  1. Click here to use our suggested form letter to mount your own campaign to positively influence the House as it crafts its own remote sales tax bill in response to the Senate's Marketplace Fairness Act.
  2. Join the exclusive club known as American Catalog Mailers Association, which is working to do something for just one-quarter of one percent of your annual catalog postal spend.
  3. Get involved when we need senior executives to talk to Washington officials (or we will help you set up a meeting with your Representative in the local area).
  4. I said three choices, because this choice is to do nothing, and if you do nothing, I can assure you your business will become severely damaged by these negative externals, which we can influence if more step up.

We will make it very easy for you to participate. We help you with what to say and how to approach it.

Did you know that 86% of the funds you contribute go directly to advocacy? Want to make it 100%? Is your company averse to association memberships? No problem. Simply contribute to our Action Funds.

At virtually every meeting I attend in Washington these days, it is clear the catalog industry’s one and only advocate, ACMA, is out-manned and under-gunned. Without more resources to be able to put up a better fight, this industry will likely face another 2007 exigent postage increase plus a new sales taxing system so costly and chaotic that you just might want to close up shop altogether.

So please take action now. We are happy to share more details; call (914-669-8391) or email my colleague Paul Miller (pmiller@catalogmailers.org) for specifics.

To ACMA members in good standing, thank you for all you do. Please pass this on to the rest of this industry.

Sincerely,

Hamilton Davison
