Postal Regulator Approves Balance of Rate Case for May 31st Implementation; Complexities With FSS Rate Remain
Dear Industry Executive:
Third time was apparently a charm. After twice remanding this year's postal rate case back to US Postal Service upon ruling that the proposed price adjustments for Standard Mail, Periodicals, and Package Services failed to comply with all legal requirements, the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) on Thursday approved those classes of the rate increase. It had previously approved First Class and other postal products. The rates are set to go into effect Sunday, May 31st. The PRC also asked the USPS to provide information on how a variety of changes will be handled in the future, several of which have real implications for catalog mailers. Trouble Ahead?
There are implications of the new Flats Sequencing System (FSS) rates that could have significant implications for catalog mailers. ACMA will be back in touch with a members-only bulletin with our expectations on the ramifications and what your real increase will be depending on your mail profile as soon as possible. Needless to say, it is not pleasant. Stay tuned...
