Breaking News: Postal Board Meets on Exigent Postage Increase Exigency Postage Increase Threat Remains... Postal Board Defers on Exigency Decision till Late September; Reform Needed Now to Stop Rate Hike To All With Catalog Interests: Yesterday, the USPS Board of Governors decided not to file for an exigent postage increase. However, the threat remains very real, because the Governors also agreed to take up the matter again at their next scheduled meeting, September 24-25. "The Governors continue to listen to stakeholders and have postponed final pricing decisions," the USPS said in a statement. "We cannot get complacent over yesterday's decision," says ACMA President & Executive Director Hamilton Davison. "There's still a very good chance the Governors will file for a punishing exigency rate hike when they next meet unless there is convincing evidence of real progress toward reform. With the Governors delaying their decision yesterday however, mailers have a golden opportunity to lobby for reform so rate hikes don't happen." Stay tuned for updates from ACMA on what you can do. In the meantime, plan to come to Washington for ACMA's recently announced Lobby Day Fly-in to Washington D.C., on October 9th & 10th. We’re inviting executive-level officers from all catalog-interested firms, whether members or not, to join us for this crucial series of meetings with Members of Congress. You will have an opportunity to meet with Congress wherever you have employees and tell your story directly. We will personally deliver first-hand accounts of what an exigency rate increase or passage of an Internet Sales Tax will do to your business. Please note that even though our Lobby Day takes place after the Governors' next meeting, we expect progress to continue toward reform over the next few weeks making our push in early October timely and critical.
