Position Summary
The role of the Web Merchant is to prepare and execute e-Commerce strategies to drive category performance through interpreting trends and market offerings, product assortment development and managing vendor partnerships. Also to partner with cross functional team to execute online marketing programs and interpret key performance metrics in order to profitably drive fast growing Ecommerce business.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Merchandise Buying
• Partner with the VP of Merchandising and Director of Marketing to determine financial goals including pre-season financial plan and frequency of new product offering. Also manags in-season open to buy in conjunction with inventory levels and at once product needs.
• Develop seasonal merchandise assortment to improve category depth and breadth. Recommend and execute product pricing strategies, merchandising and flow strategies based on current data, trends and forecasts as it relates to margin opportunities.
• Identify maintenance and trending categories and key items via test strategies. Ensure adequate transitional quantities and timing of flow on basic and seasonal programs. Monitor sales and inventory and recommends appropriate markdown action.
• Shop competition constantly – web and brick and mortar - and keep current on web products, services and marketing in order to develop best in class product assortment and user experience.
• Develop and maintain vendor partnerships while executing negotiation strategies relative to product costs, terms and shipping/return issues while maximizing margin opportunities.
• Work closely with Inventory Control to keep abreast of current inventory position. Track clearance inventory status and pricing.
• Partner with e-Commerce Marketing team on advertising and promotional programs to ensure sufficient quantity of featured product and appropriate product placement on website to ensure desired outcome. Ensure featured merchandise arrives in house before live dates, follows up with vendors as needed and communicates arrival status to e-Commerce Marketing team in the event contingency campaigns need to be prepared.

Management of cross functional team processes
• Prepare and analyze unit and dollar plans to report out on results to cross functional team.
• Provide leadership by exhibiting influence and expertise, thus affecting the results of the operating area.
• Create an effective work environment by developing a common vision, setting clear objectives, expecting teamwork, and maintaining open communications.

e-Commerce
• Identify Web Exclusive opportunities; develop and execute buying and merchandising strategy.
• Partner with vendors, Product Development and catalog merchants to transfer key main line product strategies into an online presence.
• Partner with Inventory Control to forecast web only items.
• Be able to understand and translate customer behavioral metrics and knowledge of online and offline product sales into appealing collections of products that successfully support all online campaigns.
• Work closely with the e-Commerce Marketing team to develop best-in-class online presentation and to continually refine and advance the online shopping experience based on behavioral and product sales metrics.
• Collaborate with e-Commerce Marketing team – bi-weekly updates on overall website, hot spots, social media, web copy. Also review all emails from a product selection, creative presentation, and inventory standpoint.
• Manage product life cycle of all web only products, from new product introduction to liquidation; make recommendations on pricing.
• Provide vision for web only product’s online presentation, and support creative process including propping outfits and participating in photo shoots.

Qualifications:
• Multiple years in Retail Merchandising, Buying, Product Development, e-Commerce and/or Marketing.
• Strong negotiation skills and group presentation skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills sufficient to communicate at all levels.
• Must understand key performance metrics as they relate to online shopping behavior.
• Understanding of online search and online marketing a plus.
• Must be able to handle a heavy workload and prioritize multiple projects.
• Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment and must be able to work both independently and as a team player to execute the merchandising vision.
• Proven project management and vendor management experience.

PREFERRED
• Bachelor's degree.
