The Vermont country store is seeking a conceptual, visual design guru who can take our relationship with the customer to new heights. The candidate should be a strong storyteller and custodian of the brand who can bring to life our products, the Orton Storekeeper spirit, our Vermont way of life and family values in everything we do. He/She must be able to translate insight and strategy into creative elements that resonate across all of our business channels.

The Creative Director will be an expert with concept, layout, and design of our unique catalogue of products that excite and delight our customers. We take pride in being the Purveyors of the Practical and Hard to Find, and in our ability to create lasting emotional connections with our customers. To that end the Creative Director must have a passion for the product as well as communicating with our customers.

The Director must have a strong knowledge of print, broadcast and digital communications and must be an expert in direct, retail and web marketing.
This creative leader will lead the design and implementation of projects incorporating innovative visual design, copy, and brand assets, while being mindful of audience and consumer needs and likes. This strong creative and conceptual thinker must have the proven ability to motivate designers, copy writers, photographers, freelancers and productions staff to develop innovative visual solutions.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
• Works closely with CEO and counterparts to develop business vision and strategy.
• Responsible for transforming the business vision and strategy into customer experiences that create an emotional connection and gets customers to love us.
• Orchestrator of the experiences created by customer touch points.
• Must bring rigor and creativity to the development, implementation and orchestration of creative across the company.
• A storyteller, historian and custodian of The Vermont Country Store brand.
• Must be able to take the most mundane experiences and turn them into memorable ones.
• Determine overall creative direction for the look and voice of our classic catalogues.
• Determine overall creative direction for all creative materials used across sales channels
• Provide ongoing guidance and support to the creative team.
• Partner with merchant teams and cross-functional cohorts to develop creative solutions for business needs.

Qualifications:
Desired Skills and Experience
• 10 years’ advertising agency experience, retail advertising or in-house corporate creative department experience
• B.A/B.S./BFA in Advertising or Design
• Proven track record in all mediums – print, circulars, direct mail, and web, as evidenced by a strong portfolio.
• Very strong management and leadership skills; significant experience with developing creative talent and improving design processes to improve quality and efficiency
• Exceptional conceptual and design skills
• Ability to manage a team of 10 or more
• A master of layouts and the elements making up layouts
• Advanced knowledge of the MAC, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Quark Xpress and In-Design
• Ability to think strategically and creatively and to generate innovative ideas
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with partners and associates
• Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, project management (from conception to completion), and planning skills
• A proven track record at successful implementation of creative concepts and campaigns in a retail multi-channel environment is strongly preferred
