Introduction
Staples NAS&O (North American Stores & Online) is the business to business retail/online division of Staples Inc. that serves the small-to-medium business community (SME), usually defined by Staples as businesses with 1-100 employees. The Marketing Strategy & Analytics Team (MSAT) supports NAS&O with business insights and direct marketing campaigns.
Position Summary
The Manager of Campaign Circulation, Execution and Operations is a key position with the Circulations/Operations Department of MSAT. This professional will be responsible for leading the growth and development of certain direct marketing efforts. This individual will be responsible for directing a team of campaign/business analysts in scoping, defining, designing, implementing, executing and at times reporting on various direct marketing campaigns. As a Sr. Manager, this person will be responsible for the coaching and development of Associate analysts.
Primary Responsibilities
Channel Marketing Circulation Strategy & Planning: Responsible for leading initiatives that will increase marketable universe and improve KPI’s (targeting, segmentation, response, sales, frequency of purchase, etc.). Partner with Analytical and Marketing Teams to develop integrated models and circulation strategies that create highly focused, targeted contact management plans. Maintain current knowledge of channels’ best practices and implement based on business needs and forecasted goals.
Marketing Campaign Selection: Own the campaign operation work, processes and output of a team of campaign analysts. Manage project tasks, timeline and deliverable of campaigns. Translate high-level program designs into business rules and data requirements. Ensure the quality and accuracy of selections while at the same time optimizing selected marketable universes. Ensure that campaigns are aligned with corporate initiatives, marketing goals and revenue objectives.
Direct Marketing Test Structure: Be the direct marketing subject matter expertise in designing campaign and program level testing strategy which supports the business learning needs. Partner with Reporting and Analytical Teams to develop learning plans and integrate findings in new campaign test/rollout designs. Enhance marketing campaigns based on test and learn methodology, analytics, advanced segmentation, contact frequency and predictive models.
Continuous Process Improvement: Master and optimize all aspects (strategy, marketing, technical, process and communication) of the campaign selection process from requirements definition to production execution. Additionally, participate in the overall efforts of the Database Marketing Team in improving processes, communications and tools.
Team Management: Recruit, train, coach and supervise a team of 6 or more associates. Monitor quality of associates’ deliverables. Work with associates to develop on-boarding processes.
Contact Management: Play a significant role in the future implementation of a contact management system [CMS/CRM] across lines of businesses and communications channels in order to improve customer experience and maximize program profitability.
Long Term Strategic Planning: Responsible for working with key business partners (marketing, sales, analytics, creative, etc.) to develop the strategy, tactical approach, and execution of multi-channel, integrated direct marketing campaigns that deliver enhanced customer engagement, retention, lifecycle management, life time value (LTV) and ROI.
Qualifications:
Basic
• Bachelor Degree in Marketing, Computer Science, Math, Statistics, or related field; MBA preferred
• 6-8 years related experience (managing associates within a marketing or database management department)
• Solid track record executing multi-channel/integrated direct marketing campaigns using marketing automation tools such as Alterian, SAS, Epiphany, Brio
• Advanced SQL, Excel and Access skills
• Strong written, and verbal communication capabilities, must enjoy presenting to the Business and management
Preferred
• Demonstrated ability to design test strategies for direct marketing campaigns
• A curiosity for about the analytical challenges presented by intricate B2B relationships and hierarchies
• Solid understanding of all aspects of database marketing operations, data practices, analytics and reporting, marketing data management and data quality
• Ability to interpret technical/data issues and translate them into business impact, research and recommend solution options and own them implementation
• A passion for data, analyzing results and uncovering insights in the data
• Strong quantitative, analytics and problem solving skills.
• Must be able to make sound business decisions in a timely manner, work well under tight deadlines on multiple projects and be comfortable working with large volumes of data, concepts and business models.
• Experience working with third-party data and production vendors.
• Positive attitude, team player with professional demeanor.
• Experience managing, coaching and mentoring team associates
