Summary

The Senior E-Commerce UX/UI Designer will create visually-striking, user-friendly and engaging designs for the National Geographic Store (www.ngstore.com) and its various marketing efforts. Working in a team environment, transform complex retail and marketing strategies into simple, elegant, and effective site experiences and campaigns that deliver strong key metrics (traffic, conversion, average order value). Work closely with the Brand Marketing Creative Director to ensure design solutions are consistent with overall direction of the National Geographic brand.


Responsibilities

1. Handle creative design and execution for the NG Store website to drive revenue and conversion. This includes user interfaces and designs for desktop, tablet and mobile experiences, landing pages, marketing assets (e.g., banner ads, emails and promotions on nationalgeographic.com), as well as all final website assets (product imagery, key promotions, featured merchandising areas, etc.). Work collaboratively with e-commerce and marketing colleagues, as well as third party and other key stakeholders to capture design requirements and translate them into design solutions that drive business results. As needed, create storyboards, flows, wireframes, mockups, and experience prototypes to guide development; iterate designs based on user feedback and research. (60%)


2. Work with NG Brand Marketing group to ensure that NG Store style and design solutions are consistent with NG brand guidelines. Develop and maintain a style guide for the NG Store website and catalog, including both high-level branding/design vision and detailed standards for web assets. Collaborate with merchandising team to ensure that the NG Store catalog and website provide cohesive customer experiences. Lead efforts to streamline and standardize product photography for the website.

Participate in catalog photo shoots and help oversee external agency that produces the print catalog. (30%)


3. Stay up-to-date on best of class UX/UI solutions across the e-commerce landscape. Champion user-centered design within the organization and work closely with research team to understand customers' wants, needs, expectations and behaviors. (10%)

Qualifications:
Minimum Education Required

Bachelor’s Degree in related field.

Minimum Years and Type of Experience

Five (5) years of experience in UX/UI design for the web, with at least 2 of them in eCommerce. Experience managing creative projects from concept to completion. A portfolio demonstrating superior design skills and deliverables from a user-centered e-commerce design process.

Knowledge and Skills Required

Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and/or Dreamweaver software. Familiarity with coding in HTML, CSS, and Javascript. Should be fully up-to-date on latest email marketing trends and capable of designing responsive emails. Solid understanding of web standards, cross-browser compatibility, and image optimization techniques. Understanding of agile development methodology. Must be a team player, collaborative and positive, able to take strong feedback and direction. Able to work quickly and turn ideas into reality.
