Summary

The eCommerce Content & Social Media Specialist is responsible for coordinating and developing content (copy, product data, images, etc.) for the National Geographic Store website (www.ngstore.com). Assists with management of site data and new product uploads. Creates & coordinates social media content across multiple platforms (blog, Pinterest, Twitter, etc.). Writes and edits content for the NG Store website with particular focus on SEO principles.

Responsibilities

1.Web Production. Assist in organizing and implementing content (product, merchandising & marketing data) for product uploads, site promotions, and site content updates. Gather new product description data and details, then compile into web-ready spreadsheet for Content Manager to upload. Work with various internal and external resources to collect other assets (video clips, images, size charts, artwork, etc.) and organize them for the web team to publish on the website. Provide basic digital graphic production art support using Photoshop. Help with development of site creative (images, copy, etc.) for homepage and category pages as well as special promotions. Conduct QA testing on site content, follow-up to resolve issues, and load finished material into content management system. Analyze and report results for merchandising and promotional efforts from various campaigns. (30%)


2.Social Media Marketing. Manage the creation and publishing of social media content on multiple platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, store blog, etc.). Create and manage social media editorial calendar, including planning content themes for the NG Store blog and other platforms. Work proactively with merchandising and marketing teams to identify strong storytelling opportunities. Deliver a compelling mix of product-focused and editorial approaches. Monitor conversations on various social media sites, respond when appropriate, and work with customer support and other internal departments to address any customer issues. Use social media strategies to generate and improve quality online traffic to the website. Includes keyword-based SEO writing strategy for the store blog. Write and edit content for the blog and social media. Use web analytics (for the store website and also social media platform-specific tools) to benchmark and optimize the NG Store’s social media efforts. (30%)


3.Site Content / SEO. Write and edit content for the NG Store website with particular focus on SEO principles. Work with various internal groups to create and optimize messaging that communicates the NG mission to customers. Assist with and follow through on recommendations from external agency to boost SEO. Audit existing copy and write new copy on store website to further SEO objectives and increase conversion rates. Assist in strategizing and writing copy for one-off special projects. (30%)


4. Perform other duties as assigned. (10%)

Qualifications:
Minimum Education Required

Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, English/Writing or other related field.


Minimum Years and Type of Experience

1-2 years eCommerce, online marketing, SEO or online content experience.


Knowledge and Skills Required

Strong writing skills and an understanding of the nuances of writing for the web, and eCommerce in particular. Clear understanding of how the rules of engagement differ among websites, blog posts and social media and able to tailor content for each platform. Strong attention to detail as well as organizational, prioritization, and problem solving skills. Able to handle a fast-paced environment, maintain professional composure under pressure and be a team player who is willing to share the workload and get things done. Able to work independently. Current knowledge of B to C social media marketing emerging trends and best practices. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including strength in Microsoft Excel (e.g., vlookup, text to columns). Comfortable with and has the ability to quickly learn new technology platforms. A working knowledge of web analytics tools (i.e., Omniture, Google Analytics, analytics for social media platforms). Experience with WordPress and/or other content management systems. Able to complete basic functions (crop, zoom, compress, etc.) in Photoshop or Illustrator.
