For over 100 years our mail order catalog & e-commerce company has turned FUN into a “serious” business. We are currently seeking a Merchandiser with a minimum of 5 - 8 years buying or merchandising experience, either in retail or direct marketing – preferably in the gift industry. Experience identifying product trends, sourcing and developing product for multiple catalog titles and product lines, catalog production layout and copy approval. Position is also responsible for vendor relations and negotiations along with catalog sales and profitability by managing return/book, margins, returns, and advertising/cover allowances. Ability to drive sales thru internet and social marketing. Must be able to work in a collaborative environment and be a self-starter. Flexibility with domestic travel throughout the year.

Merchandising
• Flexibility to travel to 6-8 domestic trade shows/annually to choose products in various categories for multiple print catalogs and websites.
• Product development/generate exclusive product ideas.
• Find and develop new vendors.
• Negotiate product costs/freight allowances/payment terms/return allowances/advertising allowances at item level.

Project Management
• Prepare catalog pages based on new items, profitability of old items.
• Maintain/increase profitability of catalog by managing return-per-book, overall margin, average weight of items, average price points at the catalog level.
• Communicate how to advertise items to the Production Department who writes copy and photographs merchandise.
• Proof catalog pages and web advertisements for layout and copywriting accuracy.

Collaboration
• Work with all departments – Receiving, Returns, Drop ship, Web Marketing, Production, IT and Front-end operations.
Web
• Ability to drive sales through Internet & Social Media along with 3rd party marketplaces.
• Search online to find sources for items we don’t know the vendor.

Qualifications:
• Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Clarion programs; Self-starter; High energy; Attention to detail; Team player
