Drives sales and profits for NGS Catalog and online store through the oversight and direction of the merchandising, creative, and operations areas. Enhance and optimize brand positioning, customer experience and loyalty through effective management of third party operations vendors. Develop strategic plans for profitable growth including forecasts and business models. Lead a team in a collaborative manner, empowering agile decision making, and fostering a respectful work environment.

Responsibilities

1. Financial & Strategic Planning ( 30%)
Direct P&L responsibility for $60 million catalog/online business. Direct the development of analysis to better understand and track key business drivers, lifetime value and channel attribution. Work with management team to develop standardized reports with benchmarks, historical context and appropriate summaries relating to all major areas of the business. Work with finance to create standard weekly revenue and expenses tracking systems for all major areas.

Analyze business opportunities and challenges in order to grow the business and increase profitability. Create action plans and timelines for specific opportunities. Responsible for developing strategic plans for profitable growth including detailed forecasts. Implement core growth strategies in key categories and customer segments for catalog, online, and retail business.

2. Ecommerce ( 25%)
Lead development and implementation of Society wide best in class ecommerce strategy. Help develop merchandising, marketing and creative strategies to grow online revenue and profitability, including but not limited to contextual commerce, product integration and philanthropic support.

3. Merchandising Management (15%)
Responsible for the management and oversight of the catalog, online, retail merchandising department. Work with VP of Merchandising to develop overall merchandising strategies in order to maximize sales, profit, customer retention and repeat purchase. Develop short and long term merchandising strategies and action plans tied to brand positioning & creative approach, customer segment, channel preference, seasonality; with particular focus on converting web visitors.

Key areas of merchandising management include:
• Development of NG branded, exclusive, “signature” merchandise
• Merchandising based on key NG initiatives
• Category specific strategies
• Channel specific merchandise plans and profitability analysis
• Product development and sourcing
• COG management
• Pricing strategy
• Inventory planning
• Quality control
• Departmental budgets, schedule
• Resource planning and allocation
• Coordination with licensing & other internal divisions

4. Creative (15%)
Responsible for leading creative strategy and execution that meets core business objectives and is consistent with NG brand mission:
• Improve brand positioning & tie to mission
• Increase customer loyalty and retention
• Maximize overall creative investment
• Maximize sales and profit at a square inch level (the “real estate” allocated to products and categories)
• Select & oversee creative vendors to perform key functions including copy, design, photography & styling, and separations
• Improve retail branding & creative presentation through signage, shopping bags, gifting options, & packaging
• All with an eye on quantitative metrics focusing on conversion, retention and lifetime value

5. Operations (15%)
Enhance customer experience and loyalty through effective management of third party operations, including call center, OMS, distribution center, postage and manifesting system. Drive operational cost reductions through effective vendor management and process improvements. Develop strategic partnerships with key operations vendors in order to support the full growth potential of the business. Responsible for new system implementations and process improvements that will enable us to meet our strategic business goals. Oversee the inventory management process in order to reduce backorders, inventory write offs, returns, and overall cost of goods. Ensure that all operating systems contain accurate and current inventory and cost information.

Qualifications:
Minimum Education Required
Bachelor degree in business or related field.
Master's degree preferred.

Minimum Years and Type of Experience
10 years exp. in catalog merchandising
10 years exp. in merchandising planning, forecasting and analysis
10 years exp in creative direction
5 years exp. in operations
5 years fiinancial / strategic analysis and planning
10 years exp in ecommerce
5 years managerial experience leading a team

Knowledge and Skill Requirements
Financial analytics and strategic planning
• A strong analytical thinker with structured problem solving skills
• Must have advanced analytical skills with strength in planning and forecasting
• Demonstrated financial planning and analytical skills
• Ability to manage complex financial budgets and achieve financial goals

Leadership and management.
• Ability to lead complex initiatives and project teams to create new ideas and work cooperatively across the organization
• Able to successfully develop strong working relationships at all levels and to create team collaboration
• Ability to plan and organize priorities in order to meet all deadlines
• A clear and fair management approach that fosters creativity and a respectful work environment

Merchandising
• Broad merchandising skills with extensive knowledge of the entire merchandising process
• Strong knowledge of product development and sourcing
• Strong analytical and planning skills
• Knowledge of import processes and logistics for FOB orders and pricing
• Able to create new thinking and ideas pertaining to the product and the process

Creative
• Creative strategy and direction – including photography, layout and design, brand development
• Project management – including scheduling & financial responsibility
• External vendor management
• Production and publishing experience
• Ability to meet strict deadlines and follow through on multiple overlapping projects

Operations
• Strategic partner development with the ability to effectively manage vendors
• Strong vendor negotiation skills
• Understanding of call center operations and key metrics
• Experience managing forecasts and budgets
• Understanding of distribution operations with ability to forecast order volume
• Strong knowledge of freight management, including competitive postage rates, best way shipping, manifesting systems, etc.
• Strong knowledge of inventory planning, forecasting and analysis
